APP INSTRUCTIONS

Before launching into instructions, watch this short clip of the App in action.

Here follow step by step instructions on using the App. We will also make a film soon so you can see how we use it ourselves. In the meantime, if you have any questions, contact me and I will do my very best to help.

1 Launch the App

2 Choose New Project and give it a name.

2a Do not be tempted to choose Quick Start until you have created a new project. Quick Start is designed to add events to your most recent project…

3 Click the arrow on your project tab and a new page will show Project ID, Title, Client, Themes, Researcher and Followers

3a Project ID – this can be any kind of code name/ID. It will eventually ‘talk’ to a website we are developing so that events sent to it can be organised correctly

3b Title – this is the project name

3c Client – incase you need reminding

3d Themes - this is your ‘must capture’ list of events. Events agreed with the client in advance of the fieldwork that you must capture as an absolute minimum. We could have called this tab, tags or, meta data but we prefer to call it themes.

3e Researcher – that’s you.

3f Followers – these are whoever you want to be ‘looking in’ on your fieldwork as it happens. It might be a client, an expert or colleagues back at the office who can feed you with requests, questions and comments, as live, as you capture events.

4 Add Family to give each family member or subject a name.

5 New Entry to choose whether you want to take a note, a picture, an audio recording or a video recording

5a We have limited video length to 90 seconds. This is so backlogs are kept to a minimum in Mail. Once you have finished making your video, choose Themes to select the relevant heading(s) the clip will come under. Note you can create new Themes at this point too. Once done, send your event to your Followers. You may notice a slight slowing down as you choose the relevant themes. This is because the video clip is being encoded to be emailed. A simple way of avoiding this minor slowdown is to choose your Themes before capturing your video event.

6 Send, Save & Share to Send (self explanatory), Save (until you reach a stronger signal or WiFi point or Share (redundant until we create the website to talk to the App).

7 Your entry/event will appear as an email with event attached. Themes, geo-data, etc will all be inserted into the body of the email. Feel free to add more comments at this point before clicking send

8 If you want to send a large an image/video/audio you have captured out of the app/, simply create an event, click send and cut & paste your file from Camera Roll to the email with themes, geo-data, etc. already inserts
