How does Quick Start work?
Quick start is a direct path to your most recently created project. At this stage a Quick Start captured events cannot be assigned projects.
What process is the App modelled on?
This one! You can watch our short film here.
Does it work on the iPhone 3G?
Yes but it’s slow – we think twice as slow as the 3Gs. And you won’t be able to take video – obviously. We designed EverydayLives around the 3Gs…
How do I sync my captured content?
At this time it is not possible to sync the App. And we have an excellent reason for this; it slows every aspect of the App down because content has to be saved twice. We may add syncing as a selectable option in future updates if we receive enough requests.
The App is designed for ‘as live’ sharing and collaboration which can only happen with email. And once you press ’send’ you can continue to capture new events while encoding and sending takes place in the background.
Update: see Enhancements & Fixes
Once an event is captured, I have 3 options – please explain them…
1) You can send to your chosen ‘followers’. This is self explanatory.
2) If you are in a location with weak signal or no WiFi, you will want to save rather than send until you reach a WiFi zone.
3) Don’t use the share button… yet. We are building a secure, skinnable web based ‘mothership’ to allow content to be sent and organised and organised on a dashboard automatically. Once done you can share… but give us 3 months.
Update: We are removing the ‘Share’ button altogether.
What should I know about any glitches/issues with this App?
There are no major issues that we have come across so far while destruction testing this App. Yes, it can crash but this is very rare and, so far, no data has been lost even after a crash. We have taken the precaution of limiting video length to 90 seconds to avoid encode and upload backlogs with Mail.
If you do come across any issues while using the App, or have any suggestions, please share.
Beware…
Not strictly a glitch but you will notice that photos appear slightly squashed when viewed in the App. This is because of the design layout we have used. Once sent images arrive looking fine.
The iPhone is very thirsty on battery power. Is it possible to use it in the field all day long?
There are two solutions: 1) Buy yourself a gadget such as this (recommended) or bring your charger with you and plug it in to charge at every opportunity.
